Some antibiotics are extremely dangerous and damage to our DNA and the mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of our cells. Read more to learn about why you will want to avoid a class of drug your doctor may prescribe to you!
These drugs, known as Fluoroquinolones include the following:
Avelox/moxifloxacin - and -
and are regularly prescribed by medical doctors and other practitioners more than 20 million times annually in the U.S. and are responsible for more damage than Vioxx – a drug that was removed from the market because it was responsible for causing over 140,000 American heart attacks.
Fluoroquinolones have been reported in studies to induce severe cellular damage and reports have been made to the FDA by thousands of patients with records of numerous health issues being experienced as a result of taking one of these antibiotics.
Why are antibiotics so damaging?
Fluoroquinolones hit two birds with one stone: they destroy the microbiome which supports our well-being and immunity, and deplete the only non-redundant form of DNA in our bodies, mitochondrial DNA as reviewed in these scientific papers from 2013 and 1993.
Unlike some other drugs, this type of antibiotic is able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. How does it do this? A main ingredient in fluroquinolone is fluoride, a known neurotoxin, which penetrates the blood-brain barrier and in doing so can cause damage to the central nervous system. In 1992, Omniflox, another drug in this class was recalled. Raxar (Grepafloxacin) was removed in 1999 and was known to cause arrythmia, chest pain, abnormal liver function, nausea, headache, dizziness and many other side-effects. Yet, some of these drugs are still on the market and include warnings on the package required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Levaquin, a commonly prescribed antibiotic in this class has been known to cause serious reactions after taking it. Harm has been experienced in the nervous system, musculoskeletal, visual and renal systems, sometimes simultaneously. Reactions include: nausea and diarrhea, hallucinations, kidney failure, brain fog, peripheral neuropathy, depression, painful rashes, psychotic reactions, hearing problems and retinal detachment. Read more from this New York Times article printed in 2012. In 2016, multiple lawsuits were filed against the drug manufacturer of Levaquin due to nerve damage and related issues.
Here is a list of scientific papers showing the damage done by these drugs:
If you receive a prescription for antibiotics, consider holistic alternatives that can heal the body from illness: Vitamin C and Vitamin A, garlic, echinacea, astragalus, colloidal silver, grapefruit seed extract, iodine, minerals and others. Dr. Suzanne Humphries, MD (nephrologist and homeopathic doctor) has a helpful presentation on the benefits and uses of Vitamin C.
Infectious disease such as Pertussis, Measles, Mumps, Rubella and secondary conditions such as bronchitis, sinusitis, meningitis and pneumonia have been successfully treated as well with extremely high doses of Vitamin C either in Liposomal form or IV (intravenous administration). Here is another video from Dr. Humphries as to its safety and uses.
This 2007 paper published in the Journal for the Royal Society of Medicine shows the results of using Vitamin C to treat lung infections. Another paper published in 2006 in the Journal of Nutrition suggests that Vitamin C does play a role in reducing influenza virus–induced lung pathology in mice. Dr. Thomas Levy, M.D., J.D., Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology recommends Vitamin C over antibiotic therapies for Anthrax, small pox, and other infectious disease.
Alternatives to antibiotics
Recommended are the following forms of Vitamin C:
12foru Liposomal Vitamin C proprietary formula.
Here are a few of natural remedies we recommend. For a more extensive list, read our Home "Medicine Cabinet" article. These remedies are recommended for fighting infection, boosting immunity and healing from disease which may be used alone or in conjunction with Vitamin C therapy.
Unlike drugs and vaccines, therapies recommended on this site are typically non-toxic, safe and do not cause harmful side-effects. Proper application of these recommendations in conjunction with a real food, organic diet and avoiding of environmental toxins can support optimal immunity and well-being. We encourage you to further research these topics and use them at your own discretion. We are not medical doctors nor do we take any responsibility for therapies you use that we recommend. We provide education and information to support health that have been used successfully by others to heal from disease and support well-being.
Oil of oregano there are 40 different oregano species, however, the most effective for therapeutic antibiotic effect is wild oregano, Origanum vulgare.
